Microblading
Microblading
Microblading is a semi-permanent form of cosmetic tattooing. But unlike traditional tattoos, which use a tattoo gun, microblading uses a blade-shaped tool with a row of tiny, barely visible needles to create hair-like strokes along your brows while depositing pigment into your skin. The result? Realistic-looking brow hairs that don’t wash off for a year or more.
What to Expect During Your Treatment?
Microblading can take up to 2 hours. Eyebrow mapping is done before the procedure where the artist will measure and draw the outline of the desired eyebrow shape. Then numbing cream is applied to the area. Next the artist will begin making tiny hair-like strokes to ultimately create a natural looking brow.
Although numbing cream is used, it can be a little uncomfortable but tolerable. After microblading is complete your newly created eyebrows cannot get wet for 10 days. Which makes showering, washing your hair, and working out difficult. I recommend patients to purchase microblading face shields that they can use in the shower. These work wonderful for those who wash their hair frequently.
You can expect for the first couple of days, the color of your new brows being bolder, and darker. Flaking and scabbing can start after 4-5 days. It is very important not to pick at these flakes or scabs. Picking can pull out the pigment leading to loss of color in those spots.
The healing process can take a month as it takes the skin about 30 days to regenerate. Therefore, the 30-day mark is when the true color will show itself. A touch-up appointment is needed 6 weeks after the initial appointment to make any adjustments.
This information is provided to ensure that there is minimal bleeding during the tattooing procedure. Failure to follow the below instructions can result in poor healed results. Bleeding during the procedure forces the pigment to be pushed out of the skin.
Do not consume any caffeine or alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. This includes coffee, energy drinks, pre-workout and tea. Do not take fish oils for a week before your treatment. Caffeine, alcohol & fish oils act as a blood thinner, causing you to potentially bleed during the process. This will stop the cosmetic tattoo pigment from holding in the skin during the tattoo process!
Do not take Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E or Advil/Ibuprofen 48 hours before procedure.
You won't be able to heavily exercise (cause the face to sweat), use a sauna, swim or tan for ONE week. Moderate exercise is fine.
Intense facials & skin peels should be avoided for one week pre & post tattooing.
You may experience hypersensitivity and more pain around or before your menstrual cycle.
Following the aftercare instructions is extremely important in order to ensure good retention of colour during the healing process. Aftercare accounts for over 60% of the healed results.
Following your SPMU appointment, you will be given a healing balm that should be applies everynight for up to 7 days.
Do not thread, wax or have laser hair removal on the treated area while healing.
Avoid getting the area wet for up to 7 days, which includes keeping your face dry during a shower. Use a damp face cloth or face wipe to clean your face.
Use a damp cotton pad to gently wipe the area for the first day. This will reduce the build up of lymph fluid as the brows heal and reduce the chances of scabbing.
Don’t put makeup on your brows for at least 7 days. This is because the skin is still healing. Applying makeup to the brows will increase the chance of infection.
Don’t pick at scabs, tug, or itch the eyebrow area. This will increase the chance of infection and possibly cause skin damage and scarring.
Avoid saunas, swimming, and excessive sweating until the area is completely healed, which may take up to two weeks.
